CallGuard Setup Guide

Everything you need to install, configure, and get the most out of CallGuard.

1. Installing CallGuard and Setting Up Permissions

Install the app and set up the four permissions it needs to work.

Installation

Search for CallGuard in the Google Play Store and tap Install. Once it opens, you'll see our Terms of Service — read them and tap "I Agree" to continue.

Permission 1 · Contacts

CallGuard will ask for access to your Contacts. Tap Allow — this lets you choose which contacts can reach you. We never store or share your contacts.

Permission 2 · Phone Settings

CallGuard needs permission to modify your phone settings. Tap 'Go to Settings', find CallGuard in the list, and turn on 'Allow modifying system settings'.

Permission 3 · Do Not Disturb

CallGuard needs Do Not Disturb access. Tap "Go to Settings," find CallGuard in the list, tap it, and turn on "Allow Do Not Disturb." Then come back to the app.

Permission 4 · Call Screening

CallGuard needs to be set as your Call Screening app. Tap "Go to Settings," find "Caller ID & spam app," and select CallGuard. Then come back to the app.

That's it — CallGuard is ready. Next: add your first allowed contacts.

2. How to Add Contacts and Activate Protection

Add your allowed contacts and turn on CallGuard protection.

Adding a Contact

Tap the Contacts tab at the bottom, then tap "+ Add Contact." You'll see your phone contacts — search by name or scroll to find the person you want to allow. Tap their name to add them.

Calls and Messages

Each contact has two toggles — one for Calls and one for Messages. Turn them on or off depending on whether you want that person to be able to call you, text you, or both.

Activating Protection

Once you have at least one contact added, go to the Home tab and tap the switch to activate CallGuard. The switch will turn green — from this moment, only your allowed contacts can reach you. Everyone else will be silenced automatically.

Free vs. Premium

With the free plan you can add up to 2 contacts. Upgrade to Premium for unlimited contacts.

3. How to Create and Use Groups

Create and edit groups to manage multiple contacts at once.

What Is a Group?

A group lets you allow multiple contacts at the same time with a single switch. For example, create a "Family" group with all your family members, or a "Work" group with your colleagues.

Creating a Group

Tap the Groups tab, then "+ Create Group." Give your group a name, and choose whether it can call you, text you, or both. To add specific contacts, tap "+ Add Contacts" and select who belongs to this group — or turn on "All My Contacts" to allow everyone in your phone. Tap "Save" when you're done.

Activating a Group

Back in the Groups tab you'll see your new group. Use the toggle on the right to activate it. When a group is active, all its contacts can reach you — and the protection switch in Home turns on automatically.

Editing a Group

Tap the "✏️ Edit" button to change the group name, update call and message settings, or add and remove contacts. Tap "Save Changes" when you're done.

Deactivating a Group

When you turn off the group toggle, those contacts can no longer reach you. If you have no other active contacts or groups, the protection switch turns off automatically as well.

Next: add schedules so groups activate and deactivate automatically.

4. How to Add Schedules to Your Groups

Set specific days and times when a group should be active.

What Is a Schedule?

A schedule lets you set specific days and times when a group should be active. For example, set your "Work" group to only allow calls Monday through Friday from 9am to 6pm, or your "Family" group to be active every night from 10pm to 7am.

Adding a Schedule

Tap the Schedule tab. You'll see all your groups listed — tap one to add a schedule. Select the days of the week, then set the Start Time and End Time. Tap "Save Schedule" when you're done.

Active Schedule

When the scheduled time arrives, the group activates automatically and the protection switch in Home turns green. When the scheduled time ends, the group deactivates automatically.

Multiple Schedules

You can add multiple schedules to the same group — for example, one for weekdays and a different one for weekends.

Editing and Deleting

To edit a schedule, tap the ✏️ button. To delete it, tap the ✕ button.

6. Common Questions and Situations

Tap a question to see the answer.

What happens if I try to activate CallGuard without any contacts or groups?

CallGuard will show you a message letting you know that you need at least one contact, a group without a schedule, or a group with a schedule that should be active right now, before you can turn on protection. This prevents your phone from blocking 100% of calls by accident.

What happens if I deactivate CallGuard while a group is active?

CallGuard will ask you to confirm. If you tap "Deactivate," the group will be turned off along with the protection. If you tap "Cancel," everything stays as it was.

What happens if I deactivate CallGuard while a group with a schedule is active, and then turn it back on?

When you turn the switch back on, CallGuard checks if that group's schedule is still within its active time range. If it is, the group activates again automatically. If the scheduled time has already passed, the group remains inactive until its next scheduled time.

What happens if I have contacts AND a group active at the same time?

Both work together. Your individual contacts and all group members can reach you simultaneously. If you deactivate the group, your individual contacts can still reach you and the protection switch stays on.

What happens if I remove a contact that belongs to a group?

Removing a contact from your allowed contacts list does not remove them from your groups. You would need to edit the group separately to remove them from there as well.

What happens if I delete a group that is currently active?

CallGuard automatically recalculates whether protection should remain on. If you have other active contacts or groups, protection stays on. If not, the switch turns off automatically.
